PORTLAND — Mountain View golfers finished first, third and fourth at the 3A district tournament at Heron Lakes Golf Club, and that’s not much of a surprise.

The surprise was which three golfers finished in the top 4 for the Thunder.

Senior Kian Iverson shot a 79 on Tuesday after a first-round 78 to finish third overall with a 157, helping the Thunder to another district team title.

“The thing I probably most proud of is Kian,” Mountain View coach Jim Peterson said. “A senior for us, and he’s been our No 4 all year, and he just played lights out. He’s a three-year varsity player, and he put it all together when it mattered.”

The Thunder’s No. 1 player was no surprise as sophomore Grady Millar defended his district title, shooting an even-par 72 Tuesday for a two-day total of 143.

“I thought I played pretty well today,” Millar said. “I had two double-bogeys that cost me. But on one of the double-bogeys, I bounced back on the next hole with a nice eagle. I was really proud of our team. We played really well this week and fought hard.”

Mountain View’s Alex Rigby also shot a 157 to finish fourth overall as the Thunder outdistanced Prairie 616-692 for the team title.

“I’m just really proud of our guys,” Peterson said. “This is our sixth championship in a row, and we have a lot of sophomores on the team with Kian being the senior. It’s just exciting. It’s a good group of guys. They work hard, and they love golf.”

Heritage’s Tanner Moody was the district runner-up, shooting an 81 on Tuesday to finish at 154,.

Joining Iverson and Rigby at 157, but placing fifth in the tiebreaker, was Prairie Jack Dalberg. Dalberg shot a 2-under on the front nine Tuesday and finished with a 75.
