Third Congressional District candidates Republican Joe Kent and Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez are facing off in a debate weeks in advance of the Nov. 8 general election. The event, hosted by regional League of Women Voters chapters, begins at 2 p.m. today. It can be viewed below.

Journalists from five newspapers — The Columbian, the Chinook Observer in Ilwaco, The Chronicle in Centralia, The Daily News in Longview and the Skamania County Pioneer in Stevenson — will serve as panelists for the debate. Questions were screened beforehand by League officials to ensure they were appropriate.

Kent and Perez were the top vote-getters in the Aug. 2 primary election, ending five-term incumbent Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s time in Congress.

The debate is scheduled to end around 3:15 p.m. The final video of the debate will be available several hours after its conclusion
