A married couple who recently moved to the area from Texas has been identified as the subjects of a murder-suicide, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began Oct. 9 when a real estate agent and some clients were touring a rural property near Camas and discovered a woman’s body.

The sheriff’s office has now identified the victim as Melissa J. Stephan, 55, of Oregon City, Ore. She died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The investigation led detectives the next day to a Beaverton, Ore. hotel, where they found the body of Stephan’s wife, Ruby M. Stephan, 48, also of Oregon City. She died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Beaverton police assisted the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit on the investigation.
