Hear a story of peace and reconciliation told through the journey of a World War II Japanese pilot who eventually viewed his Oregon target as a second home.

Friends of the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will host a screening of “Samurai in the Oregon Sky” at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the fort’s visitor center, 1501 E. Evergreen Blvd.

The documentary film tells the story of Japanese pilot Nobuo Fujita, who flew over the Oregon coast and bombed the U.S. mainland during World War II. Later, Fujita was unexpectedly invited back to the region where he befriended people in a small Oregon town.

Ilana Sol, the film’s director and producer, will be present to answer questions at the screening, which also marks the 80th anniversary of Fujita’s flight over Oregon. Those who are interested are encouraged to arrive early, as there are only 75 seats in the theater.
