Letter: C-Tran objections unwarranted

C-Tran CEO Shawn Donaghy’s assertion that his board can scuttle the I-5 Bridge replacement sounds more like someone marking his territory than someone truly interested in the public benefit (“C-Tran CEO Donaghy airs I-5 Bridge replacement plan worries,” The Columbian, Sept. 22). His insistence that trains cannot be stored in Vancouver just adds to that impression. Is he concerned that people will see the Tri-Met logo and abandon C-Tran?

His objection to an elevated platform is also puzzling. Elevated trains are safer and can move faster than trains at grade because they don’t have to contend with vehicles crossing the tracks.

If the C-Tran CEO is willing to threaten the entire bridge project over territorial posturing, perhaps it is time to explore Tri-Met becoming Quad-Met.
