Letter: A win-win for schools

There is not a school district in Clark County that needs to cut programs or personnel due to a shortage of revenue due to the failure of a levy.

The first year I was employed at Portland Public Schools, we were faced with the same situation as Evergreen Public Schools. We got around the problem of short funding by giving every employee 30 days mandatory time off without pay. Yes, it was hard. But we did not need to lay personnel off or cut programs.

We had to come up against the unions, but in the end they saw the logic in the recommendation and it became a win-win for all.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
