Clark County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday arrested a man accused of kidnapping a 1-month-old child in northeast Vancouver.

The man, identified by the sheriff’s office as Mario Andrews, reportedly stole a 2022 Audi with the victim’s young son in the back of the vehicle. The victim called 911 at 7:49 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies were dispatched to 1501 N.E. 99th St. and located the vehicle near Northeast 88th Street and Highway 99 with the child inside at 8:02 a.m., according to Clark County sheriff’s patrol Sgt. Jim Lawrence.

The child did not appear to be injured and was returned to the parents after a medical check, according to the sheriff’s report.

Andrews reportedly had left the area when deputies arrived.

The victim called 911 again at 11:32 a.m. to report their credit cards being used at Vancouver Mall, Lawrence said. Sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver police officers responded to the call and arrested Andrews for theft of a motor vehicle, kidnapping in the second degree and reckless endangerment, the report said.

Vancouver police officers also arrested him for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempt to elude from an earlier case.

“The investigation is ongoing because there’s potentially some other charges that the suspect is going to be facing,” Lawrence said. “I don’t know what, but I’m certain that there will be some updates as time goes on.”
