Letter: Letter writers miss the mark

Judy Veazie of Vancouver (“Hold gun owners accountable,” Our Readers’ Views, April 2) advocates accountability for gun owners, but elides reality: Liability insurance is available in many states, Washington being one. Don’t try insuring through USCCA or NRA or any affiliated company as state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has banned them. U.S. Lawshield is one company with varying degrees of coverage for firearm users. Veazie did not provide statistics on the number of USCCA or NRA members that commit gun crimes.

Roberta Upson (“Be pro-life with stricter gun laws,” Our Readers’ Views, April 2) insists on stricter gun laws, ignoring the fact those committing crimes involving guns are outlaws that do not obey laws.

Columnist Henry Olsen (The Columbian, April 2) stated very accurately and factually that Trump’s subsequent trial should have a change of venue, whether or not you support Trump. The article has merit but the reality is the New York judiciary, attorneys general share an overt bias toward anything and anyone Trump or associated with Trump. A change of venue is and will be out of the question.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
