Letter: Limit family sizes, population growth

By Julia Rosenstein, VANCOUVER
Published: April 11, 2023, 6:00am

The April 6 Columbian states we need 100,000 new homes by 2044 to meet future housing demands (“State: Clark County needs 100,000 more houses, apartments or other units,” The Columbian, April 6).

My question to readers is, why do humans feel so entitled to have children? Seriously. For every future development created, we remove food from the mouths of wildlife. Shouldn’t our society encourage women to have just one child? Would not a woman be as happy with one child as she is with a whole passel? If we are in the midst of a mass extinction now, what are we going to do to wild species in the next 20 years? Isn’t it time society frowned on large families?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
