Washington’s Department of Ecology is seeking public comment on an amendment to Clark County’s Shoreline Master Program.

Clark County submitted a proposed amendment to its Shoreline Master Program on March 7. The amendment is intended to align the program with updates to the county’s critical areas regulations. The amendment addresses several topics, including decoupling the county’s flood hazard area regulations from the shoreline program; incorporating new critical areas regulations for wetlands and habitat conservation areas; correcting an exemption for forest practices inconsistent with the Shoreline Management Act; revising residential standards to allow for repair, maintenance, and modification of legally existing development within floodways; and updating administrative provisions.

At the conclusion of Ecology’s review, the agency director will decide to approve the amendment as submitted, approve it with required or recommended changes, or deny approval.

The public comment period runs May 1 to June 1. Documents are available for review at https://bit.ly/3Au9wTD.

Comments can be submitted online at the website listed above or mail to Tess Brandon, WA Dept. of Ecology, PO Box 47775, Olympia, WA 98504.
