Ridgefield City Councilor Rachel Coker announced she is leaving the council. Coker’s resignation was effective April 17.

According to a press release Friday, Coker will continue to remain active in the Ridgefield community, participating in community events, volunteering for the Ridgefield Lion’s Club, continuing an active role in the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, visiting the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge or sitting at Eagle’s Nest Lookout Park enjoying a light spring rain and the sound of singing birds.

The council will appoint a replacement to serve until a new councilor is elected in the November general election. The appointee will fill Coker’s council seat until the election is certified on November 28.

Those interested in the position must submit an application to the city clerk by noon, May 5. The council will review the applications and determine which candidate will move forward with an interview. City residents have until May 11 to submit questions for the applicants online at RidgefieldRoundtable.org.

At its regularly scheduled May 11 meeting, the council will interview candidates and appoint a new council member. The new councilor will be sworn in and attend the regularly scheduled meeting.

Additional information about the process and how to apply can be found at https://ridgefieldwa.us/city-council-vacancy-april-2023.
