The article “Letter to support I-5 Bridge grant a challenge” (The Columbian, Aug. 5) brought back the chaos and shortsightedness of our Clark County elected representatives. Due to their actions 10 years ago, we lost millions of our tax dollars in a failed attempt to build a new I-5 Bridge. Once again, we are faced with representatives exhibiting short-sightedness and lack of knowledge on how the system works.
Submit the grant request as written to the transportation secretary so we can at least progress on the application process and get the funds necessary to move forward. The “In Our View” clearly and concisely explains this (“Councilors’ letter on I-5 Bridge muddies water,” The Columbian, Aug. 5).
To the Clark County Council, stop muddying the waters with your ridiculous excuses and shortsighted viewpoints. They have no merit nor any basis in this process. If you succeed, then we will lose again, and the bridge will remain unbuilt.
I am 82 years of age. I might have been able to enjoy an easier drive across our river if the last attempt to get funding had succeeded. Now I do not expect that in my lifetime. I do, however, wish that others might.
