Prep basketball: Collins leads Skyview’s big second-half rally in win over Battle Ground

Demaree Collins scored 41 points including 28 in the second half as the Skyview boys basketball team rallied in a big way to win the 4A Greater St. Helens League matchup at Battle Ground, 83-72 on Thursday.

The Storm (12-8, 1-4 4A GSHL) trailed 60-39 with 2:23 to play in the third quarter and went on a 36-7 run to take the lead.

Collins himself outscored the Tigers in the second half, 28-26.

“What an unbelievable comeback,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “I was proud of the heart of our guys.”

Skyview also shot 78% from the free-throw line (25 of 32), and missed just twice in the second half.

Gavin Perdue and Malakai Weimer each scored 15 points for Skyview. Weimer also had eight rebounds, and Gavin Packer added seven points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Battle Ground (12-6, 2-3) got 35 points from Tait Spencer and 13 points from Trey Spencer.

RIDGEFIELD 54, COLUMBIA RIVER 50 — Sid Bryant scored 13 points as the Spudders held on for a 2A GSHL home win.

Ridgefield (11-8, 10-5) led 25-11 at halftime before Columbia River outscored the Spudders 24-12 in the third quarter.

Ridgefield held on in the end by going 8 for 11 at the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Ridgefield’s win sets up a showdown with Woodland on Tuesday to decide third place in the 2A GSHL.

WOODLAND 67, HUDSON’S BAY 59 — Drew Burns scored 19 points to lead four Beavers in double figures as Woodland won at Hudson’s Bay to stay tied with Ridgefield for third place in the 2A GSHL.

Woodland (12-7, 10-5) surged ahead with a 24-14 fourth quarter advantage.

Justin Philpot scored 17 points, Dane Huddleston 15 and Beau Swett 10 for Woodland.

Hudson’s Bay’s Izek Finn scored a game-high 24 points, and Breyden Pennington had 20 for the Eagles (3-16, 3-12).

R.A. LONG 69. FORT VANCOUVER 38 — Cavin Holden scored 17 points, Jaxon Cook added 15 points and the Lumberjacks earned a 2A GSHL road win that sets up a clash with rival Mark Morris for the league title.

R.A. Long (16-3, 14-1) will face Mark Morris (19-1, 15-0) in the regular-season finale on Tuesday.

Tayvon Vance and Kaeleb Cvitkovich each scored 11 points to lead Fort Vancouver (1-19, 1-14).

Girls basketball

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 49, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 39 — Bridget Quinn scored a career-high 31 points as the Knights finished the Trico League season as co-champions.

King’s Way (11-7, 9-1) finished tied with Seton Catholic atop the Trico League. The Knights will be the league’s No. 2 seed into next week’s district tournament.

SETON CATHOLIC 59, STEVENSON 39 — Kasey Clifton had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go with five steals, and Anna Mooney led all scorers with 22 points as the Cougars won the Trico League matchup at Stevenson.

The win ties the Cougars (18-2, 9-1 Trico) with King’s Way Christian for the league title, and gives the Cougars the No. 1 seed for district on tiebreakers.

Aria Obias scored 13 points and Sofia Spencer 10 for Stevenson (6-13, 2-8).

CASTLE ROCK 46, LA CENTER 32 — Kynsi Bayes scored 16 points and Brookelyn Albinger added 12 points as the Rockets earned their first Trico League win of the season.

Castle Rock (2-15, 1-8) took control by outscoring La Center 17-5 in the third quarter after leading 21-19 at halftime.

Jessie Tomberlin scored nine points to lead La Center (5-14, 3-7). Talia Wise added eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Wildcats are done with league play and have clinched the Trico’s No. 4 seed to the district tournament.

On La Center’s senior night, injured guard Gianna D’Emilio entered the game and scored an uncontested basket despite wearing a walking boot.

WASHOUGAL 57, HOCKINSON 39 — The Panthers took over the game by starting the second quarter on a 10-0 run as they cruised to the 2A GSHL win at Hockinson.

Chloe Johnson led Washougal (10-10, 9-6 2A GSHL) with 19 points to go with seven steals and five assists.

Bella Albaugh had 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals, and Hadley Jones led the Panthers with 14 rebounds.

Hockinson senior Allie Seekins finished her career with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Lyla Taylor scored 15 points and had five rebounds.

HOOD RIVER VALLEY (ORE.) 52, MOUNTAIN VIEW 36 — Camaria Brown scored 13 points and Nina Peterson had 10 in Mountain View’s non-league loss at Hood River.

Hood River (6-13) led 18-9 after the first quarter and kept the Thunder (11-9) out of reach from there.
