Letter: Better use for tax break

By Joyce Tobias, Vancouver

After reading about the city’s tax break given to a builder of a high-rise apartment on the waterfront, I was appalled. Granted there will be a few low-rent places included. In a recent mailing I was asked to renew an existing levy that would help to provide affordable housing. I am not opposed to this levy, but I do find it very shortsighted of the council to grant this tax break to the developer — $2,765,000. Perhaps that could pay for more affordable housing. Rather than always passing the bills to homeowners in the form of taxes or levies, this might help pay the bill another way.
