Bamba, Gueye lead Washington State over Stanford 67-63

STANFORD, Calif. — TJ Bamba scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, Mouhamed Gueye added a double-double and Washington State held off Stanford 67-63 on Thursday night.

Bamba sank 9 of 14 shots, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, for the Cougars (14-15, 9-9 Pac-12 Conference).

Gueye finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds as Washington State picked up its fourth straight win by ending a four-game losing streak on the road.

Andrej Jakimovski made three 3-pointers and scored 11, while Justin Powell also sank three from beyond the arc and scored nine with five assists for the Cougars.

Brandon Angel hit 4 of 5 from distance and scored 17 to lead the Cardinal (11-17, 5-12), who have lost three straight. Harrison Ingram had 15 points and five assists. Maxime Raynaud and reserve Michael Jones scored 10 apiece. Raynaud added seven rebounds, while Angel grabbed six.

Gueye had nine points and eight rebounds by halftime, Jakimovski hit two 3-pointers and scored eight and the Cougars took a 30-28 lead into the locker room.

The Cougars stayed in front until Ingram scored the final five points in an 8-1 Cardinal run to knot the score at 55 with 5:20 left to play. Powell and Angel traded 3-pointers, Bamba hit a basket and Spencer Jones followed with a three-point play to give Stanford a 61-60 lead with 3:29 remaining.

Jakimovski sank a 3-pointer and Angel answered with a dunk to tie it at 63. Bamba hit a go-ahead jumper with 44 seconds left, DJ Rodman made two free throws with 14 remaining and the Cougars held Stanford scoreless over the final 2:51 to pull out the win.

Washington State made half of its 48 shots and 12 of 25 from distance. Stanford shot 43% and hit 8 of 20 from 3-point range.

UP NEXT

Washington State stays on the road to play California on Saturday.

The Cardinal host Washington on Sunday.
