SALMON CREEK — In a special celebration, Pam Moore presented a $9,000 check to John Brookens, past president of the Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s Cancer Program. The funds were raised at the Southwest Washington Kiwanis RE/MAX Golf Tournament, held in early October. The donation will help fund fellowships for physicians seeking advanced training in pediatric oncology and hematology at Doernbecher. Moore, a real estate agent and member of Salmon Creek Kiwanis, served as the co-chair for the golf tournament and has been involved with it for 28 years. Brookens surprised Moore when he awarded her the prestigious medal honoring Kiwanis Past Governor Frank Morehouse, who expanded the KDCCP program to children’s hospitals in both Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. The next golf tournament is scheduled for May 13 at the Lewis River Golf Club. Applications will be available in late January.
