Prep basketball highlights: Defense lifts Woodland girls over Ridgefield

Riley Stading scored 12 points, Addi Stading added 11 points and Woodland’s defense stood firm in a 42-30 win over Ridgefield on Thursday.

With the home win, Woodland remains alone in third place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League. The Beavers (9-4, 6-2) are a half-game behind second-place Mark Morris.

Woodland allowed just two points in the second quarter and led 18-11 at halftime. No player from Ridgefield (6-6, 4-4) scored more than seven points.

HUDSON’S BAY 44, FORT VANCOUVER 23 — Alana Stephens scored 19 points to lead the Eagles to a 2A GSHL road win.

Miranda Gonzalez added 10 points for Hudson’s Bay (5-5, 3-5). The Eagles took charge by outscoring Fort 17-6 in the second quarter to lead 23-10 at halftime.

Trian Clark scored eight points for the Trappers (3-9, 1-6).

WASHOUGAL 53, HOCKINSON 38 — Bella Albaugh had 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers earned a 2A GSHL home win.

Jaisa Wilson added 10 points and Hadley Jones had 10 rebounds for Washougal (6-7, 5-3).

Washougal outscored Hockinson 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 30-18 lead.

MARK MORRIS 48, R.A. LONG 23 — The Monarchs led 19-4 after one quarter and cruised to a win that kept them in second place in the 2A GSHL.

Brooklyn Schlecht scored 17 points to lead Mark Morris (9-4, 6-1).

Briana Garwood scored 10 points to lead R.A. Long (0-9, 0-8).

EVERGREEN 53, BATTLE GROUND 36 — Christina Nguyen scored 15 points and Kimora Ross had 14 as Evergreen (10-4) won the non-league game at Battle Ground (1-11).

Yvette Rosales had 12 points for the Tigers and Naomi Cooper added 10.

Boys basketball

UNION 72, MOUNTAIN VIEW 33 — Kody Holcomb scored 18 points, Yanni Fassilis added 14 points and the Class 4A Titans rolled past the 3A Greater St. Helens League-leading Thunder.

Holcomb and Fassilis combined for 20 points in the first quarter, which ended with Union ahead 25-2.

Fassilis and Samiar Thompson each had six steals as Union (9-6) never led up on defense.

Ledarius Washington had nine points to lead Mountain View (9-3).

LA CENTER 54, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 38 — Austin Nixon scored 18 points, Colby Hylton added 15 points and the Wildcats won in the Gorge to keep pace atop the Trico League.

The Wildcats (6-3, 3-1) are tied with King’s Way Christian for the league lead.

Spencer Karlson scored 14 points to lead the Bruins (6-4, 1-3).

CASTLE ROCK 51, STEVENSON 42 — Trystin Marin scored 16 points, Owen Langdon added 12 points and the Rockets earned a Trico League home win.

Castle Rock (5-5, 2-2) led 30-15 at halftime before Stevenson pulled within 36-30 after three quarters.

Kacen Bach scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (8-3, 1-3).
