Letter: Lack of charges troubling

By Bob Travis, Vancouver

I’m troubled by the decision to not charge Clark County sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan Feller with criminal charges (The Columbian, Jan. 12) in the death of off-duty Vancouver police Officer Donald Sahota. I understand the scene was chaotic and high stress, but Feller rolled up, jumped out of his car and immediately shot Sahota in his yard. Feller had no idea whether Sahota was the armed robbery suspect or who he was.

Had a citizen taken the actions Feller did, with no idea of the situation at hand, and shot and killed someone, they would be charged with murder. So should Deputy Feller. He is either poorly trained or just unfit to be a cop. At some point police who commit life-ending “mistakes” need to start being held liable.
