Letter: Show respect for performers

By Doug Allen, Vancouver
Published: January 19, 2023, 6:00am

To the cast and crew of “Moulin Rouge!,” performed at Keller Auditorium on Jan. 15, I’d like to apologize on behalf of the entire audience and the people of the greater Portland area.

I was horrified to see at least 10 percent of the audience leaving the theater during the last song of the first half so they could get in line to get booze faster. It was equally disgusting to see at least 15 percent or more of the audience leaving during the last song of the show to get a jump on traffic.

I have seen more than 50 Broadway shows in New York City, and I have never seen an audience behave so badly in my life. The cast and crew of that show, and every other show, work their hearts out to put on the best possible production, and you thank them by insulting them during their show? If you are guilty of this behavior you should be ashamed of yourself. You made us all look like uneducated hillbillies. If you can’t sit through the duration of both acts, just stay home and watch Netflix with your family.
