An 18-year-old man was killed Sunday night when the car he was riding in crashed into a tree at high speed on Southeast Columbia Way.

Vancouver police responded at about 9 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Columbia Way, according to a police department news release.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, was ejected from the car and taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. His passenger died at the scene. Authorities have not released their names.

Investigators say they believe alcohol and speed are factors in the crash. The posted speed limit in that area is 30 mph.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate. No names have been released yet by police.
