Regarding fire district impact fees (May 10 Clark County Council work session). I am furious that two councilors spoke against using impact fees (fees on new development) to fund the impacts of growth on our fire districts. The fire chiefs did an outstanding job explaining the need and challenges, and why it is not fair to ask existing residents to pay for the impacts of new development on the need for capital expenditures.
Glen Yung and Michelle Belkot would rather we all pay higher property taxes, versus having new development pay for capital costs to support itself.
I live in rural Clark County, I have no issue paying my fair share of normal infrastructure and operational costs through my property taxes. But why should I pay higher taxes to support the explosive growth the county is experiencing?
Why should my service levels suffer due to unpaid-for growth? If Glen and Michelle have their way, my insurance costs may go up due to decreasing service levels, and/or my property taxes will go up to cover the costs
I want to thank Gary Medvigy and Sue Marshall (Karen Bowerman was absent) for supporting the fire chiefs and public safety.
