It is far past due for the homeless camp known as “The Swamps” east of Vancouver Toyota to be cleaned up. The recent fire (“Vancouver Fire battles blaze at ‘Swamps’ homeless encampment,” The Columbian, March 3) was a strong warning of the dangers present to the inhabitants.
It looks like a landfill and has been the source of criminal activity in the area for years. Regardless of any potential sale, which could be years in the making, it needs to be cleared of debris and hazardous waste. Inhabitants need to be relocated to more appropriate shelters or Safe Stay areas.
