Adjudicators said they were amazed at the excellent performances by all 14 youth singers who auditioned April 18 for the Vancouver Master Chorale Youth Vocal Scholarships.
They had to make hard choices. In the end, the judges named Adisynn Ackley and Mackenzie Stiles winners of Vancouver Master Chorale Youth Vocal Scholarships. Ackley and Stiles each won $1,100 to further their vocal studies, and both will be featured during the chorale’s concerts this weekend.
Three encouragement awards of $300 each were also presented to Minntah Haefker, Tanner Wuethrich and Christian Villahermosa. The adjudicators were Susan Pautz, Scott Tuomi and Master Chorale musical director Jana Hart.
The nearly 100-voice Master Chorale’s upcoming concert series, “A Glimpse of Heaven,” will feature Mozart’s monumental final work, the Requiem in D minor, which featured prominently in the final, dramatic scenes of the (highly fictionalized) 1984 film “Amadeus.” A full orchestra will accompany the chorale. The concert program also includes pieces by Eric Whitacre and the late Henry Mollicone, a friend of Hart’s, who was commissioned to write “All God’s Children” for this group in 2012, back when its name was Vancouver USA Singers.
