Letter: Gun laws make state safer

By Mason Darling, WASHOUGAL

As of April 25, Gov. Jay Inslee had signed three new bills. By doing so he continues to enact meaningful gun safety measures for the state of Washington.

With this, Washington is now one of 10 states with a ban on assault weapons. Not only this, but also one of the few states with a waiting period and training requirement for all gun purchases, assault or not.

This new bill is making many residents feel an improvement of health and safety; it also makes the banishment of gun ownership seem like it is coming much faster. However, I think it is a good thing that residents are beginning to feel safer about guns. I also think many don’t consider that some professions are based around guns (commercial hunter, sheriff, etc.). Instead, I believe a stronger set of rules around gun safety would be more beneficial and more effective, while also considering that without guns some may lose their jobs, houses, cars, and more.
