Our soaking rains are still on track. Light rain early in the weekend will pick up intensity later Sunday and continue off and on next week. Ready for cool, cloudy and wet? Maybe a fire in the fireplace? It seems like autumn has arrived, so does the weather to go with it.

Let’s review local rainfall from August.

Bob Starr, Cougar, .48 of an inch; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, .73 of an inch; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 1.06 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, .86 of an inch; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, .68 of an inch; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, .63 of an inch; Dave Campbell, Heisson, 1.07 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 1.20 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.30 inches; and Barry Fitzthum, Amboy, .64 of an inch. Our friend Roland Derksen in Vancouver, BC reported 1.43 inches. The official rainfall for Vancouver was .69 of an inch, .17 of an inch above normal.

Vancouver had some heavy showers on the last day of the month which put us over the top. The average rainfall in August is .52 of an inch. The rain gauge showed .59 of an inch on Aug. 31. Imagine, over a month’s average rainfall in one day.

Many of you enjoy fall as your favorite season of the year for many reasons. . It is my favorite season as well, especially after such a dry and warm summer.

Enjoy the weekend and the refreshing rains that will be falling.
