Letter: Kent is insult to military

Thank you for highlighting Speaker Mike Johnson’s recent visit to promote the candidacy of Joe Kent (“U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson visits Vancouver for Joe Kent fundraiser,” The Columbian, Aug. 18). I can scarcely contain my disgust. Is Kent someone whose judgment you trust?

I am a decorated combat veteran and remain a commissioned officer in the Army Infantry (Airborne). Joe Kent said he is a military veteran. But he supports a draft-dodging fraud who calls me and the comrades I have buried at Arlington “suckers and losers”? Kent supports the election of a draft-dodger and a USMC corporal (a military newspaper boy) who never once went “outside the wire” without an escort?

I’m no great fan of Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, but I sure prefer her to a loser like a faux patriot and chameleon like Kent.
