U.S. Rep Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, will host a service academy open house event Sept. 16 in Vancouver.

The event will take place between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St., in the Columbia Room.

At the event, Southwest Washington high school students and their families will be able to learn more about pursuing a career in the armed forces and meet with representatives from the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force and Merchant Marine academies.

High school juniors, or anyone 17 to 22 years old residing in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, are able to apply for a service academy nomination from Perez through her website.

Completed applications must be submitted by Nov. 12. Applicants will be scheduled for interviews shortly after.
