Prep Roundup: Battle Ground boys basketball finishes strong against Heritage

Tre Cornelison got Battle Ground started. Then Tigers didn’t blink when it came to finishing strong.

Cornelison scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter as Battle Ground beat Heritage 62-54 on Thursday.

The Tigers outscored Heritage 19-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a non-league home win.

Boston Walker added 16 points, including six points in the fourth quarter, for Battle Ground (1-1).

Jose Zacarias scored 20 points to pace Heritage (1-1).

LAKE CITY (Idaho) 56, CAMAS 53 — Jordan Carlson scored 21 points as the visitors held off the Papermakers.

Carlson, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, scored eight of his team’s 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Nyima Namru scored 14 points and Jace VanVoorhis added 11 points for Camas (0-1).

WOODLAND 51, CENTRALIA 22 — The Beavers led 31-3 at halftime and cruised to a non-league home win.

Jackson Gabbard scored 14 points and Michael Belvin added 11 points for Woodland (1-1).

Jordan Young and Kadin Young each scored nine points for Centralia (0-2).

WINLOCK 53, STEVENSON 42 — The Cardinals used a big third quarter to earn a road win.

Winlock (1-1) outscored Stevenson 17-4 in the third to take a 44-25 lead. Landen Cline scored 13 points to lead three Cardinals in double figures.

Jude Travinski scored 17 points to lead Stevenson (0-2).

FORT VANCOUVER 58, HUDSON’S BAY 49 — Isaiah Barajas scored 18 points and Leighton Livengood added 15 points to lead the Trappers over the rival Eagles.

Barajas scored all of his points in the second half as the Trappers rallied from a 26-24 halftime deficit.

Jaxen Appelt led Bay with 16 points.

RIDGEFIELD 53, KELSO 36 Jamison McCann scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Spudders pulled away.

Ridgefield led 39-33 after three quarters before the defense held the Hilanders to three fourth-quarter points.

Jack Hughes added 10 points for Ridgefield. Bryan Iddings led Kelso with 13.

R.A. LONG 56, SETON CATHOLIC 47 — Landon Irwin scored 15 points and Payton Thill added 13 as the Lumberjacks held off a shorthanded Seton Catholic squad.

The Cougars were playing their season opener without four players who are still playing football. Kaiden Wilson led Seton with 15 points and Brady Angelo added 14.

Girls basketball

MOUNTAIN VIEW 63, WASHOUGAL 45 — Sveva Bernasconi scored 16 points to lead four Thunder players in double-figures.

Ashlee Heer added 11 points while Layla Senderson and Amaya Paschal each scored 10 points for Mountain View (2-1).

Jenna Klopman scored 23 points to lead Washougal (0-2).

COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 56, HOCKINSON 33 — Halle Kock scored 15 points, Sara Miller added 12 points and the Bruins improved to 2-0 with a home win.

Up 24-21 at halftime, Columbia-White Salmon took control by outscoring the Hawks 24-9 in the third quarter.

Lyla Taylor scored 15 points to lead Hockinson (0-3). Dannika Grant added eight points and five rebounds.
