Vancouver police fatally shoot a man who authorities say had gun, physically attacked an officer

Vancouver police shot and killed a man Wednesday night in east Vancouver after he physically attacked an officer, according to a statement from the agency.

Police contacted the man at 10:48 p.m. in the parking lot of Safeway, 13719 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

37-lot subdivision proposed for Hazel Dell but development down overall in Clark County

A Vancouver-based real estate developer has proposed a 37-lot single-family housing development just south of Northeast 88th Street in Northeast Hazel Dell.

County planning documents show Provision Group proposed the Hidden Pine Compact Subdivision on a 3.57-acre site west of Northeast St. Johns Road, north of Northeast 78th Street and east of Northeast Highway 99. Lots would range from 2,800 square feet to 4,600 square feet.

Kiggins owner and waterfront developer say new Vancouver taxes will drive away customers

Movie theater and parking lot owners are frustrated with the city of Vancouver’s decision to tax customers.

“It’s hard enough to get people to go to the movies right now,” Kiggins Theatre owner Dan Wyatt said.

Clark County’s Top 10 employers have changed in the last decade but PeaceHealth remains No. 1

Clark County has changed dramatically in the past decade. Nowhere is that more evident than on the Columbia River Economic Development Council’s list of organizations that employ the most workers in the county.

Some industries have blossomed, such as health care. Nonprofit health care system PeaceHealth moved its headquarters to Vancouver at the end of 2010, boosting its Clark County employment footprint. And Legacy Health and the Vancouver Clinic’s local workforces have exploded over the past decade.

Driver killed in one-car crash on Lewisville Highway north of Battle Ground on Saturday morning

A driver was killed Saturday when his car hit a tree while driving on Northeast Lewisville Highway north of Battle Ground, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Kristopher W. Peterman, 29, of Amboy died when his car left the road while traveling north on state Highway 503 near Milepost 11.9. The patrol said the 2008 Chevrolet Impala that Peterman was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.
