Prep Roundup: Woodland girls basketball opens 2A GSHL play with win

Kennedy Bockert scored 22 points, Addi Stading added 19 points and Woodland opened the 2A Greater St. Helens League season with a 58-46 home win over Mark Morris on Monday.

Bockert, a sophomore post, went 10 for 16 from the free throw line. Woodland went 19 for 31 at the foul line while Mark Morris went 8 for 12.

Kiki Makaiwi led Mark Morris with 16 points. Kadence Gorans added eight points and eight rebounds.

Girls basketball

HERITAGE 48, HOCKINSON 31 — Jaila Ellis scored 25 points and led a strong second half for the Timberwolves.

Ellis had 18 points after halftime, at which Heritage trailed 18-14. The Timberwolves (2-1) outscored Hockinson 15-2 in the third quarter.

Dannika Grant scored 11 points and Lyla Taylor added 10 points for Hockinson (0-5).

WASHOUGAL 43, BATTLE GROUND 38 — Jenna Klopman scored 20 points, including 12 in the first quarter of a non-league road win.

Teja SLayter added nine points for Washougal (1-2).

Ella Horst scored 14 points to lead Battle Ground (1-3).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 42, BLANCHET CATHOLIC (Ore.) 22 — Ella Lopez scored 13 points to lead the Knights to a win in Salem, Ore.

Addison Bagley added eight points and six rebounds. Bridget Quinn had seven points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

King’s Way (2-1) led 20-8 at halftime and 30-12 after three quarters.

R.A. LONG 42, CASTLE ROCK 33 — Alauna Brown had 23 points and six steals as the Lumberjills forced 32 turnovers in a non-league home win.

Bri Garwood added 12 points, eight rebounds and seven steals for R.A. Long (1-1). Jocelym Magana had a team-high eight steals.

MORTON-WHITE PASS 43, KALAMA 34 — Aubrey Doerty had 17 points and 11 rebounds but the Chinooks couldn’t catch the Timberwolves down the stretch.

Doerty scored 10 of Kalama’s 12 points in the first quarter.

Trailing 36-23 after three quarters, the Chinooks (0-2) pulled within five points with 2:30 to play.

Boys basketball

COLUMBIA RIVER 83, HERITAGE 64 — Aaron Hoey scored 32 points as the fast-starting Rapids earned a non-league road win.

Ari Richardson added 18 points. Luca Phillips scored nine of his 14 points in the firt quarter as Columbia River (1-0) jumped to a 22-12 lead.

Tyrell Cash scored 27 points and Jose Zacarias added 15 points for Heritage (1-3).

COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 61, WOODLAND 51 — Mason Hamilton scored 13 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter as the Bruins pulled away late for a non-league road win.

A close game throughout saw Columbia-White Salmon ahead by two points with two minutes to play.

Mike Belvin led Woodland with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Tanner Cusick added 10 points while Elijah Andersen had eight points and nine rebounds.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 53, BLANCHET CATHOLIC (Ore.) 46 — Jackson Lovato scored 23 points as the Knights triumphed in Salem, Ore.

Lovato scored 11 of the Knights’ 15 points in the third quarter.

Stars of the day

  • Addy Case, Skyview girls bowling, rolled 201-269 for the high score in a win over Union.
