’Tis the season when twinkling lights illuminate our nights, making the darkness merry and bright. One light show is making a debut — Winter Gleam at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland — but several light shows have been going strong for decades, including the Christmas Ships Parade, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Meanwhile, Portland’s Peacock Lane has been glowing every year for a century. Strolling through ZooLights or seeing the light display on Franklin Street in downtown Vancouver, it’s easy to capture the holiday spirit.

Until Dec. 22: The Port of Camas-Washougal has already hosted its annual Christmas Ships viewing party, but the Columbia and Willamette fleets will keep floating along through Dec. 22. The Columbia fleet will swing by the Grant Street Pier at 8:10 tonight, Friday and Dec. 17; Wintler Park shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 20; the Interstate 205 Bridge and Steamboat Landing at 7 p.m. Dec. 18. See the complete schedule at christmasships.org.

Until Dec. 31: Peacock Lane in Portland’s Sunnyside neighborhood will be open for free viewing from 6-11 p.m. daily. Pedestrian-only nights are Dec. 15 and 16, when the street is blocked to vehicle traffic. Get complete details at peacocklane.org or check facebook.com/peacockln for updates.

Until Dec. 29: Oaks Amusement Park, 7805 S.E. Oaks Park Way, Portland, will host Winter Gleam from 5 to 10 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December. See light displays, light tunnels and twinkling pathways. Enjoy games, seasonal food, local vendors with holiday gifts and photo opportunities with Santa Claus ($20). The park’s carousel, Oaks Park train and Yeti Mini Golf will also be open. Buy tickets ($18) at wintergleampdx.com.

Until Dec. 30: The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights is open daily (except Christmas Day) at 8840 N.E. Skidmore St., Portland. This walk-through display features millions of lights along a quarter-mile of footpaths, choir concerts, caroling, puppet shows and live music. Attendees should bring a nonperishable food item for SnowCap Community Charities. Check hours and purchase tickets ($6.75 to $18) at thegrotto.org. Discount nights are today, Friday and Saturday.

Until Dec. 31: Christmas on Franklin features 225,000 lights stretched across eight properties that will glow from 5 to 10 p.m. every night until Dec. 31, with a centerpiece display at 4616 N.W. Franklin St., Vancouver. See a life-sized Nativity scene with a 24-foot-tall star, a 60-foot lighted cedar tree, a 15-foot snowman, characters from “Frozen,” lifelike reindeer, the Grinch and dancing Christmas trees. On Christmas Eve, “snow” will fall every hour. Hot cocoa and treats are available to buy on weekends. For more details, see facebook.com/HolidaysOnFranklin or holidaysonfranklin.com.

Until Dec. 31: See the Winter Wonderland drive-thru light show at Portland International Raceway, 1940 N. Victory Blvd. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 4:30 to 11 p.m. Fridays through Sundays as well as Christmas Day. See 250 colorful light set pieces and animated scenes. Proceeds benefit Sunshine Division’s hunger relief. Admission is $38 per vehicle for sedans, pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans. Buy tickets at winterwonderlandportland.com.

Until Jan. 3: Skamania Lodge, 1131 S.W. Skamania Lodge Way, will offer a Holiday Light Walk through the meadow and under the Douglas firs in Tree House Village from dusk until 9 p.m. every night. Guests can enjoy hot cocoa around the fire pit at the end of their stroll. Get details at skamania.com/things-to-do/seasons/holidays-at-skamania.

Until Jan. 5: ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo features new light displays this year, including a meadow light show, life-size animal lanterns along the train route, and more interactive displays. Walk through the famous tunnels of sparkling lights, pose next to colorful animals and make holiday memories to last all year. Learn more at oregonzoo.org/lights.
