Girls basketball roundup: Battle Ground gets balanced scoring in 41-25 win over Heritage

The Battle Ground girls basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak behind a balanced scoring effort in its 41-25 victory over Heritage on Friday.

Charlotte Clarke led the Tigers (2-4 overall) with eight points, and the Tigers had five players — Marissa Loveall, Charlotte Jones, Lola Cooper, Delaynee Hibbs and Ava Robertson score six apiece.

After trailing 8-4 after the first quarter, Battle Ground outscored Heritage 12-3 to hold a 16-11 halftime advantage.

Jaila Ellis led Heritage with 17 points.

MARK MORRIS 47, KELSO 41 — Kialani Makaiwi’s 19 points, eight rebounds and four steals plus 13 points from Paisley Fraidenburg powered the Monarchs in their non-league win at home. MM also went 23 of 33 from the free-throw line. The game’s intensity was noted by MM coach Sean Atkins, who also praised Makaiwi and Fraidenberg.

“Fraidenberg stepped up and had a huge game offensively,” Atkins said, “and really helped separate offensively just before halftime to give us a 5-point lead.”

Bregan Ruhland paced Kelso with 15 points.

CAMAS 63, MOUNTAIN VIEW 35 — The Papermakers’ 25-point first quarter helped set the tone in their 4A/3A GSHL victory at home over the Thunder. Camas shot 48 percent from the floor and had 16 assists on 28 field goals.

Keirra Thompson led Camas with 15 points and 11 assists. Sophie Buzzard and De’Chaiya Gentle poured in 12 points apiece and a combined 18 rebounds.

COLUMBIA RIVER 66, RIDGEFIELD 25 — The Rapids jumped out to a 21-10 first-quarter to cruise to their 2A Greater St. Helens League victory over the Spudders.

River hit nine 3-pointers, and got all-around performances by Marley Myers (12 points), and 10 apiece by Kaya Mirtich and Avi Desjarlais.

UNION 68, EVERGREEN 49 — Brooklynn Haywood scored a game-high 32 points as one of three Titans to score in double figures in their non-league win at Evergreen.

Jalise Chatman chipped in 15 points and Janessa Chatman added 13.

Adrian Wright’s 16 led the Plainsmen.

HOCKINSON 56, HUDSON’S BAY 9 — Lyla Taylor had 18 points, seven rebounds and six steals and Dannika Grant added 13 points, eight steals and four assists in the Hawks’ 2A GSHL win over the Eagles.

Halle Jardine added a double-double of 11 rebounds and 10 steals.

WASHOUGAL 62, R.A. LONG 40 — Jenna Klopman’s game-high 26 points — including scoring 11 of her team’s 14 third-quarter points — paced the Panchers in their 2A GSHL home win.

Teja Slyter (19 points) and Riley Vaughn (14) also scored in double figures for Washougal.
