Letter: Where does county’s money go?

By Jess Rubenstein, Vancouver

Having just finished reading the article on Clark County Council not being able to find the money to increase staffing at the sheriff’s office, I would like to know why not? (“Clark County 2025 budget: No property tax increase, no new staff for sheriff’s office,” The Columbian, Dec. 6).

I have watched over the last couple of years a couple hundred new homes be built, sold, and occupied up here where I live, and there has been plenty of building all over the Vancouver area. So where is the tax revenue from all this new construction going?

The council made the choice not to raise the tax levy by what is allowed, knowing full well they are going to run into problems. I know I won’t vote to increase taxes until this council does a better job explaining how our tax money is being spent.
