Sydney Dreves has one more reason to celebrate her senior year with the Columbia River volleyball team.

Dreves was selected as the Class 2A state player of the year by the Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association.

The 2A Greater St. Helens League player of the year and Columbian All-Region player of the year led the Rapids to their fourth consecutive 2A state championship by beating Ellensburg in five sets last month in Yakima.

It was the second straight year a Dreves was the WSVCA 2A player of the year. Lauren Dreves earned the honor last season.

Dreves was joined on the 2A all-state first team by a teammate, sophomore Sophia Gourley, as well as Ridgefield junior libero Tava Whitlow. Ridgefield senior setting Callie Curran made the second team.

Camas placed two players on the 4A all-state first team — senior setter Kendall Mairs and junior outside hitter Ella Thompson. Camas junior libero Emmah Sanchez and junior middle blockers Shaylee Stephen and Quinn Pedersen made the second team. Union junior libero Keira Limbrick earned honorable mention.

La Center senior middle blocker Billie Ross earned a spot on the 1A all-state first team. Teammate Esther Langeliers, a senior outside hitter, made the second team.

From NBA to Las Vegas

Fresh off a 48-41 win over Prairie on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland, the Skyview girls basketball team will prepare to play four games later this week at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

The Storm open against Buckeye Union of Arizona at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty High School in Henderson, Nevada.

“It’s going to be fun to see a bunch of new teams,” Skyview junior Brynnlee Williams said. “There are teams coming in from Australia coming in, from everywhere. I think it’s going to be fun, maybe a bit overwhelming, but a good experience.”

The tournament continues with games every day through Saturday.
