Cornell soccer standout Alex Harris, a Columbia River High grad, is turning pro.

The sophomore signed a Generation Adidas contract on Wednesday and is eligible for the MLS SuperDraft, which is Friday.

Cornell noted in a press release that Generation Adidas is an MLS partnership in which Adidas sponsors the athlete’s contract for the team that drafts them. In signing the contract, Harris officially declared himself as a professional and will not be returning to the pitch with the Big Red next season.

Harris was named Eastern College Athletic Conference soccer Offensive Player of The Year on Monday. Also a semifinalist for the MAC Herman Trophy, Harris had 43 points on 19 goals and five assists this season. His points and goals totals were second in the nation.

“Alex’s career at Cornell has been nothing short of remarkable,” Cornell coach Daniel Wood said in a statement. “In his two seasons here he has managed to make the most difficult part of playing our sport (scoring goals) look fairly effortless.”

Harris was previously named to the 2024 NCAA All-American second team as well as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, a first in Cornell history. He finishes his collegiate career with 31 goals and nine assists.

Harris was not one of the three finalists announced Wednesday for the Herman Trophy, which goes to the top men’s and women’s player in NCAA Division I college soccer. The United Soccer Coaches narrowed the list from 13 semifinalists.

Harris was named The Columbian’s All-Region boys soccer player of the year twice and helped lead Columbia River to the 2023 Class 2A state title.
