Girls basketball (Dec. 19): Seton Catholic uses tight defense to pull away from La Center 57-26

Seton Catholic’s pressure defense held La Center in check for a 57-26 win Thursday, the Cougars’ second Trico League girls basketball victory in as many nights.

Madison Lee and Riley Seymer each scored a team-high 14 points, while Remy Jenniges added 12 points to lead Seton Catholic. Adyson Maddock had a team-best three blocks.

La Center’s Riley Schultz scored eight of her team-high 10 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats trailed 18-10 through the opening eight minutes.

Seton Catholic’s defense tightened from there, holding La Center to one field goal in the second quarter.

The Cougars led 33-14 at halftime, and opened the third quarter on an 11-1 run, which included baskets from Lee, Jenniges and Tiffany Sheldon.

AC DAVIS 74, UNION 73, OT — Brooklynn Haywood scored 13 of Union’s 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Titans forced overtime, where they came up just short.

Haywood finished with 42 points as Union suffered its first loss of the season.

WESTCHESTER (Calif.) 58, SKYVIEW 42 — Cameron Watson scored 19 points as the Storm fell in their second game at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

Skyview, which also got nine points from Charlotte Baker, will face George Washington of Denver at 2:40 p.m. Friday.

SEASIDE (Ore.) 47, WOODLAND 43 — Kennedy Bockert had 29 points and 11 rebounds and Addi Stading added six points and four steals as the Beavers fell in their opener at the Seaside Holiday Tournament.

KELSO 56, BATTLE GROUND 28 — Madalynn Moe scored 12 points and Hayden Johnson had 11 to lead Kelso.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 56, NORTH KITSAP 46 — Sveva Bernasconi scored 18 points and Jadlyn Senderson scored 16 as the Thunder won a non-league road game.
