Malakai Weimer scored a team-high 20 points, and Landon Webb made two of his four 3-pointers in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter as the Skyview boys basketball team rallied in the second half to beat Liberty of Beaverton, Ore., 57-54 on Friday night at the Silverton, Ore., Tournament.
The Storm (5-2) trailed 37-21 at the half and came out of the locker room with some inspired defense to hold Liberty (1-4) to just one basket.
“Our team leaders encourage the team to focus on team defensive principles and it worked,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said.
Webb tied the game with his third 3 of the final quarter with less than 50 seconds to play.
On the next possession, Tycen Haij got a steal. Then with 2 seconds left, Webb buried his go-ahead 3.
Haij finished with 10 points for Skyview.
FEDERAL WAY 57, EVERGREEN 46 — Evergreen was down 21-4 after the first quarter and nearly rallied all the way back against visiting Federal Way.
The Plainsmen got within 45-42 with four minutes to play but would get no closer.
Kai Speer led the Plainsmen with 17 points, and Dez Daniel had 13.
THE DALLES (ORE.) 59, WOODLAND 50 — The Beavers outscored The Dalles in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to come back and take the game at the Seaside Holiday Classic.
Jackson Gabbard and Tanner Cusick each scored 14 points for Woodland.
PRAIRIE 79, MOLALLA (ORE.) 66 — Carson Morningstar poured in 35 points and Jamir Jones 24 as the Falcons won the non-league road game.
Down four at the start of the second quarter, Prairie outscored Molalla 26-7 to pull away.
Ben Nkansah was solid on defense for Prairie, and Denton Dearborn played big minutes. He had seven points.
