Mt. Bachelor in central Oregon boasts with the deepest snow base reading of any ski resort in the country with seven feet of snow at the base, the resort reported this week.

The 84-inch base is expected to get even deeper this weekend as forecast calls for continued heavy snow, bringing upwards of 4 feet of new snow by the end of the weekend.

The resort has received 178 inches of snow already this season and should exceed the 200-inch mark by the end of the current storm cycle.

It’s all been part of a record-breaking opening to the 2024-25 ski season at Mt. Bachelor.

The resort’s Nov. 15 opening was the earliest since 1998.

The 120-inches of snowfall received in November was the most since 1998 and more than twice the average November snowfall of 53 inches.

With the rapid snow accumulation and storm conditions, visitors to the mountain should get the Oregon Department of Transportation Trip Check website (tripcheck.com) for real-time road and traffic conditions. Visitors should also consider using the CET (Cascades East Transit) shuttle from Bend.

Skibowl closed to skiing

After opening for its first weekend of the season Dec. 18-22, Mt. Hood Skibowl has closed again for skiing and riding.

Rising snow levels last week brought rain to the slopes, eroding away at the resort’s snow base.

However, snow levels are forecasted to drop this weekend. New snow accumulation of 4 to 9 inches is expected at Government Camp on Saturday and Sunday night. Check skibowl.com for schedule updates.

The Tube Hill remains opens daily through the winter break for Day and Cosmic Tubing.

Tubing tickets through Jan. 5 are available to purchase at skibowl.com.
