A driver was seriously injured and burned in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on state Highway 14 in east Vancouver.

According to the Vancouver Fire Department, witnesses called 911 about 5 p.m. to report the crash that caused a vehicle to flip and roll multiple times before landing on the shoulder, just west of the 164th Avenue Exit.

The sedan caught fire and the driver was trapped inside.

Bystanders tried to pull the driver from the burning car but were unable to. They also used handheld fire extinguishers on the flames, according to a fire department statement.

The driver of the other vehicle in the crash was able to get out of her vehicle and was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire in the sedan but needed special extrication equipment to remove the driver from the vehicle, which landed on its side.

The driver was pulled from the car within 25 minutes of firefighters responding.

The driver had serious injuries, including burns, and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the right lane and the offramp lane were blocked for about four hours.

The identities of the drivers in the crash have not been released.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
