Hatchery winter steelhead program set to end on Washougal River

Closure part of agreement between conservation groups and state department of fish and wildlife

Anglers who like to fish for winter steelhead on the Washougal River may soon find the offerings depleted.

The recent agreement signed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and wild fish conservation groups will bring some changes to Columbia River fisheries.

Among these changes is a popular hatchery winter steelhead program on the Washougal River, which uses an early returning out-of-basin stock for its production, will be discontinued.
