Southwest Washington and the Portland area can expect stagnant air through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

The agency issued an air stagnation advisory about 5:30 a.m. Friday which will be in place through 4 p.m. Monday.

“A persistent inversion with light and variable winds will lead to a period of stagnant air conditions. This scenario could result in the build up of air pollutants near the surface over time,” according to the weather service.

The buildup of pollutants could cause issues for those with respiratory problems.

Officials recommend that people avoid outdoor burning and limit indoor wood-burning as much as possible.

According to airnow.gov, air quality in much Clark County falls in the good range this morning but will be in the moderate range today. Some areas of east Vancouver are already measuring in the moderate range this morning.
