Letter: ID is not a requirement

I read the letter about Fred Meyer insisting they must scan your driver’s license into their system when purchasing liquor (“State invades personal privacy,” Our Readers’ Views, Nov. 22). The writer said the Fred Meyer employee said it was a state requirement. This is certainly not true. When I shop at Costco, I am not required to have my driver’s license scanned.

Personally, I hate it so much that I never buy any liquor at Fred Meyer anymore. If it means a second stop, that’s fine. Until Fred Meyer changes their policy, I will never buy liquor from them again.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
