Letter: Republicans ignore border crisis

Every day, I am bombarded with television ads from Republican politicians claiming that their Democratic opponents have done nothing to solve the problems at our southern border and are allowing thousands of illegal migrants into our country.

What none of them have the integrity or nerve to tell the viewers of these commercials is that several months ago there was a bipartisan bill in Congress that was agreed on by both Democrats and Republicans. It was the most comprehensive immigration bill in recent years. It contained most of the things that Republicans said they wanted. It was likely to pass and then move to the Senate.

Then along came the “Great Liar,” Donald Trump. He told them not to pass that bill because it was a good campaign issue to hammer Democrats with, and like a bunch of jellyfish they tucked their tails between their legs, swallowed what little integrity they had left and voted against their own bill.

If the problems at the border are as bad as they would like us to believe, it is because of their own spineless actions. They need to develop some backbone and put the country first instead of a convicted criminal.
