Prep highlights: Mason Acker of Washougal wins 2A GSHL boys golf title

Washougal’s Mason Acker shot 2-under 70 to win the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League boys golf tournament by three strokes Tuesday.

Acker outpaced Broden Toney of Mark Morris, which won the team title by six strokes over Washougal on the Greenback Course at Heron Lakes.

Acker shot 35 on both the front nine and back nine. Toney shot 39 on the front nine before rallying with a 34 on the back.

Owen Winn of Columbia River placed third with a 2-over 74.

Up next is the 2A District 4 tournament on Oct. 21-22, also at Heron Lakes.

Stars of the day

  • Aly Ordona, Seton Catholic volleyball, had 16 kills and 27 digs in a five-set win over King’s Way Christian for the Cougars first win over the Knights in program history.
  • Lord King Nana-Badu-Weah, Battle Ground boys cross country, led the Tigers to a dual meet win over Camas by placing first, covering 5,000 meters at the UL Campus in 15 minutes, 46 seconds.
  • Sophia Rogers, Battle Ground girls cross country, was the fastest by 14 seconds at a dual meet with Camas, covering 5,000 meters at UL Campus in 19:24.
  • Dekota Houfek, Prairie boys cross country, was the individual winner as the Falcons tallied a perfect 15 points in against Evergreen. He covered 4,600 meters at Lewisville Park in 16:21.
  • Daniella Vazquez-Gonzalez, Evergreen girls cross country, was the fastest runner at a dual meet with Prairie, covering 4,600 meters at Lewisville Park in 19:57.
  • Izabela Steinborn, Mountain View girls soccer, had eight saves in the Thunder’s 2-1 win at Kelso to clinch the 3A GSHL title.
  • Christian Harlow, King’s Way Christian boys golf, had a 1-under-par 35 at Elk Ridge Golf Course to earn medalist honors against Stevenson.
  • Izzy McCauley, Fort Vancouver girls soccer, scored a hat trick in the Trappers’ 4-0 Trico League win over Castle Rock.
  • Gianna-Mei Alejo, Pagaduan, Evergreen girls soccer, posted two goals and two assists in a 5-0 shutout of Heritage.
  • Avery Seley, Columbia River volleyball, dished out 40 assists in a three-set sweep of Woodland.
  • Tori Lasch, Ridgefield girls soccer, scored one goal and assisted two others in a 6-0 shutout of Washougal.
  • Remi Buckley, Columbia River girls soccer, scored a hat trick as the Rapids remained undefeated on the season with a 8-1 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Bridget Brennan, Hockinson girls soccer, scored four goals in the Hawks’ 6-0 win over Woodland.
  • Whitney Martell, La Center volleyball, had nine kills, eight blocks and 11 digs in a four-set win over Columbia-White Salmon.
  • Erin Bennett, Evergreen volleyball, had 15 kills, 17 digs and seven aces in a four-set win over Mountain View.
