Yeah, sure, the Skyview offense put on a show Friday night.

But how about the Storm defense.

Skyview notched its first shutout of the season, holding Union to just 76 yards of offense in a 42-0 rout of the Titans in a 4A Greater St. Helens League game.

“Wiggs has done a good job,” Skyview head coach Steve Kizer said about defensive coordinator Ken Wiggins. “He does so much homework on teams. He’s calling a great game. And the kids are following the game plan. I was really proud of the defense.”

Skyview kept Union from getting a first down until the final two minutes of the first half, when Skyview had already built a 28-0 lead.

Half of Union’s yards came on their final possession, when the reserves were in the game.

Sawyer Muehlbauer had two sacks and Tyallen Edmon had an interception and a sack for Skyview. Riah Tua added a sack, and David Dudko had an interception.

“We just needed to hammer them on defense,” Muehlbauer said. “We knew they wouldn’t come back, and that’s what we did.”

Offensively, quarterback Doogie Poindexter threw four touchdown passes to Gavin Packer.

The first was a short pass that Packer took across the middle and slipped through tacklers for a 31-yard touchdown.

The next two were deep balls over the top for scores of 43 and 62 yards as Skyview led 35-0 by halftime.

Packer finished with seven catches for 161 yards after his 5-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter started the running clock.

Levi Webb rushed for two touchdowns.

And Poindexter is getting back into form after missing time with an ankle injury earlier this season.  The senior finished 13 of 15 for 264 yards.

“I thought Doogie threw the ball really well when he wasn’t under pressure,” Kizer said. “But I thought he had a great game, so that was good to see.”

After back-to-back losses, Muehlbauer says the Storm have turned things around with two regular-season games to go — next Friday against Battle Ground before the regular-season finale against Camas on Nov. 1.

“Oh, definitely, yeah,” the senior said. “We’re putting it all together on defense and offense. It should be a good end to the season.”
