Disabled vehicles on Interstate 5 south — one near the I-5 Bridge and one in Salmon Creek near the 139th Street ramp — about 5:30 a.m. snarled traffic in Clark County for hours during the Thursday morning commute.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the disabled vehicle near the bridge was reported at 5:29 a.m. and cleared about 20 minutes later but the damage was done.

By 6:30 a.m. traffic on I-5 South was backed up to Hazel Dell with traffic spilling onto westbound state Highway 500 and 14.

The disabled vehicle blocking the ramp from 139th Street cleared about 7:18 a.m. The agency said drivers on I-5 south should use an alternate route and I-205 quickly slowed from the split all the way south to the I-205 bridge, with snarls at the onramp from Highway 500 backing up that highway to west to the Vancouver Mall and east to 112th Avenue. Highway 14 west also saw slowing approaching I-205.

Several crashes were reported in the backups on I-5. There is no word on injuries.

The issues had largely resolved by 9:30 a.m. — except on Highway 500 west approaching I-5, which remained slow to V Street.
