Savion McCoy had a 41-yard touchdown run as he and Joey Ianello each rushed for more than 100 yards, leading Columbia River to a 17-3 win over Hudson’s Bay in a 2A Greater St. Helens League football game Thursday night at Kiggins Bowl.

River’s win, along with Mark Morris’ 51-7 win over R.A. Long, will send the Rapids to a Tuesday play-in game against Aberdeen for the 2A GSHL’s last berth to the Week 10 playoffs. Columbia River (3-6) will play at Aberdeen at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

After Columbia River missed a field goal attempt, it looked like the Rapids and Eagles might play a scoreless first half Thursday.

But after a Bay punt, McCoy broke loose on a 29-yard run, then followed that with a 41-yard touchdown run to give River a 7-0 lead with 3:02 left in the second quarter.

Bay then drove down inside the River 5-yard line before settling for a 21-yard field goal by Brant MacLaren as time expired in the first half.

River drove 74 yards on 11 plays on its first possession of the third quarter to take a 14-3 lead on Cole Pearson’s 2-yard touchdown run.

Aeden Pena’s 31-yard field goal with 6:01 left in the game closed out the scoring.

McCoy finished with 103 yards rushing on 11 carries, and Ianello added 102 yards rushing on 15 carries. Greg Blau caught three passes for 84 yards.

Tai Telea rushed for 83 yards on 17 carries for Bay, which finished the regular season 0-9 for the first time since 2012.

MARK MORRIS 51, R.A. LONG 7 — Nate Stevens rushed for three touchdowns and the Monarchs used their ground attack to beat the Lumberjacks and secure the 2A GSHL’s fourth berth into the Week 10 playoffs.

Stevens had touchdown runs of 14, 9 and 2 yards. Kenny Mullen Jr. added two touchdown runs, as did Kevin Hernandez Ruiz as all eight of the Monarchs’ touchdowns were scored on the ground.

TraMayne Jenkins added an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for R.A. Long, which finished the season with five consecutive losses.
