Letter: Reject Initiative 2117

By Elizabeth Verbeck, VANCOUVER

The nation’s average gas price is $3.21 per gallon. In our area, Arco has gas at $3.55. People complain about high gas prices yet go to much higher-priced stations. Washington gas prices are always higher than the national average because we have the fourth-highest gas tax in the nation at 49.4 cents per gallon that is unrelated to the cap-and-trade program.

Clearly, cap and trade is not passing all of the cost on to the consumers and is funding clean air and water, transportation and fish habitat programs, to name a few.

Vote no on 2117 to maintain these programs that benefit us all.
