PORTLAND — The Portland Trail Blazers agreed to a multi-year contract extension with general manager Joe Cronin on Monday.

Details of the deal were not announced.

Though eliminated from play-in tournament contention on Sunday, the Blazers have 14 more victories than last season. They are 22-16 since Jan. 19 with a top-5 ranking in defensive efficiency during that span, according to ESPN.

Cronin was named general manager on May 10, 2022, after serving as interim GM the previous five months. He replaced Neil Olshey and received a four-year contract.

In the past three seasons Cronin has engineered roster moves that have improved the team’s overall talent level and competitiveness.

Through trades, Cronin spearheaded the additions of Jerami Grant, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, and Deni Avdija.

Under Cronin’s direction, the Blazers have also added talent through the draft in Shaedon Sharpe (seventh overall pick in 2022), Scoot Henderson (third overall pick in 2023), and Donovon Clingan (seventh overall pick in 2024).

Both Sharpe and Henderson, along with Camara, have been named to NBA Rising Stars teams at multiple All-Star weekends.

“Joe has demonstrated leadership and vision during his time as general manager, and I’m excited to see him continue building the foundation for a long-term, winning team,” Jody Allen, chair of the Portland Trail Blazers, said in a statement. “We are all thrilled with the team’s forward momentum and excited for the future of Trail Blazers basketball.”

“My vision is to have a competitive roster with the potential for sustained success, while creating a culture that helps all our players, coaches and staff thrive,” Cronin said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.”

Cronin has gained experience within the organization across a variety of front office roles in the past 19 years. He has extensive knowledge of the salary cap, proven management skills, player evaluation prowess, and player contract expertise.
