Letter: Trump lacks empathy

By John Lippe, Vancouver
Published: April 8, 2025, 6:00am

OK Roy, we get it … you like and support Trump (“Liberal empathy is lacking,” Our Readers’ Views, April 1). Unfortunately, most of what you write is just a repeat of Fox News or maybe an attempt to write a “Saturday Night Live” skit or April Fool’s joke. Cherry-picked and hypocritical like Donald Trump himself.

Empathy is lacking, you write. Have you seen an ounce of empathy in anything the president and his henchman Elon Musk are cutting? Cuts to the services and support to any and all he doesn’t like? Services and support here and around the world that will result in millions of deaths? Relinquishing U.S. goodwill to China? Do you think that the world will have any empathy toward the people of the U.S.?

Negativity and hate on full display sounds like Trump. The Rage already exists and will only grow.
